kyle’s crosses — december 2021

On the evening of Christmas Eve 2012, Kyle, with some help from his brother, David, and cousin, Westley, assembled and then placed at the entrance of his family’s back yard memorial garden an arbor he had purchased for his mother. It was something she had wanted for a while and remembering this, Kyle bought it for her as a Christmas gift that year. Unfortunately, in September of 2020, the arbor was destroyed by Hurricane Sally. Brokenhearted, she collected the pieces of wood and determined she would one day make something with them so Kyle’s thoughtful gift would live on. She ultimately decided crosses would be the perfect reincarnation and asked Kyle’s father to help her in her endeavor. With decorative crosses purchased from Hobby Lobby to accent the salvaged wood, they went to work in the shop and created crosses to give as Christmas gifts for friends and family. Below are some pictures that friends shared of their crosses.

NOTE: THE GRADUATION VIDEO WILL START AS THEY BEGIN TO ANNOUNCE THE POSTHUMOUS DEGREES. THE part THAT RECOGNIZES KYLE WILL RUN FROM APPROXIMATELY 57:28 TO 59:06.

Since Kyle was just three courses shy of his degree when he passed away, the University of Arkansas’ Civil Engineering faculty voted in the Spring of 2020 to posthumously award him his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Due to the pandemic, it was not until May 7, 2021 that the commencement ceremony could be held and Kyle’s mother and father were able to accept his diploma. Also present at the ceremony, which was held at the Barnhill Arena on the University of Arkansas’ campus in Fayetteville, were his brother, David Lowrey; grandmother, Betty Broom; aunt, Melanie Lowrey Sparr; and aunt, Elizabeth Lowrey. Others who were unable to attend, watched the ceremony live via YouTube, as seen above.

A BIG cheer of “THANKS” to the 2018-2019 Washington High School Cheerleading team in Pensacola, Florida for wearing the Kind Like Kyle wristbands. This group of young ladies has won all of the major competitive cheerleading competitions in which they have entered. To assist in getting the squad to their last competition, someone donated money to them in the name of “Kind Like Kyle”. The cheerleaders, in turn, wore the “KLK” wristbands on their shoes for a year. Once again, thanks and congratulations to the cheerleaders of Washington High School!
